The first warm day of spring, with a low tide, almost always draws people out to stroll along the shore, to beachcomb, or explore the tidepools. The intertidal zone is home to an incredible diversity of plants and animals that live at the edge of the sea. As our population grows in coastal areas, so may our impacts on marine habitats. Protection of this fragile environment requires active participation and monitoring by local people and communities.
